Established in 1909, Khudozhestvenny is one of the oldest cinemas in the world. The most important premieres took place here, the first sound and color films were shown here, and the building has always been equipped with the most advanced technologies of the time. In 2020, a large-scale restoration work was completed. Based on the original designs by Shechtel, the building’s historical appearance was brought back to life. Khudozhestvenny remains a premiere cinema and festival center with a curatorial approach to its program. Since 2017, the curator and visionary of the project is Alexander Mamut. Artistic Director of Moscow Art Cinema is Stas Tyrkin.
